In 2003, His Majesty, King Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa issued a royal decree allowing foreigners to enjoy complete and total ownership of freehold property in Bahrain. This key legislation empowers foreigners to own commercial and residential property in Bahrain in designated areas and gives them five-year renewable residence visas upon investment.
The opening of the real estate market has spurred greater investment and has provided a greater incentive for foreigners to make Bahrain their business hub in the Middle East.
